Techniques to Improve Motivation at Workplace

Organization’s environment differs considerably. But motivating employees is a persistent challenge that happens in every organization and needs constant review of some key notes in someone’s life. Like establishing a new business, improving motivation and boosting performance levels of employees cannot happen overnight. Adopting techniques to improve motivation at workplace for employees is not only necessary for getting most out of our organization’s employees but also to retain the best employees. Improvement of employee’s motivational level does not always takes more money, as long as the organization is eager to think creatively and be flexible.

Here are some adoptable techniques to improve motivation at workplace; which helps in improving performance and boost productivity of employees.

• RECOGNIZE GREAT WORK

An employee’s continuous and flexible efforts for producing unexpected results should be recognized and rewarded; otherwise without recognition the efforts won’t keep happening. It’s also important how you recognize a great work in organization. Bonuses at the end of projects/ months do a great trick. Small and consistent rewards are a great technique to improve motivation at workplace over time and hit remarkable milestones.

• SET SMALL AND ACHIEVABLE GOALS

Working on never-ending projects is not at all an impressive idea for employee’s motivation. Break big projects into smaller achievable task goals and set up their rewards. Noticeable progress makes a clear indication that employee’s work is making a change. Therefore, small and achievable goals really boost up motivation level in employees.

• APPLAUD RESULTS

Setting up small and achievable goals provides considerable opportunities for employees to be applauded publicly for their hard work. It is more of significance that each employee’s hard work should be highlighted more specifically rather than just generally, those who contributed in moving the organization forward.

• BE TRANSPARENT

To maintain or improve motivation in an organization, communication should be transparent and similar among all employees. Keep each employee aware of same information. Don’t restrict communication to just emails; but try to do it in person; and be more clear and effective in providing information an employee needs to perform his job to achieve company’s goals. This will help employees feel more motivated and involved in their work.

• ENCOURAGE TEAMWORK

Setting up teams to work on a project can be a significant technique of improving motivation at workplace. Putting together everyone’s hard-work feels great. If anyone lacks any skill or is left behind, his team-mates can carry him and let achieve that task and get into next task. Build encouraging work environments that let the employees work in a team.

• CREATE A POSITIVE WORK ENVIRONMENT

Provide the employees with positive work environment and encourage them to work in teams and share their ideas for performing better. If an employee wants to work independently, let him do and do not force him to do teamwork; otherwise he may lose his effectiveness in his work. But just do when it’s appropriate.

• PROVIDE INCENTIVES

Rewarding even small achievements encourages the employees to work further more energetically and more focused. Increasing employee’s motivation by providing him incentives; either financial or non-financial; is a great technique. This can include providing cash prizes, gift vouchers, ticket to vacations or any other.

• CORRECT PRIVATELY

Apart from rewarding employees for even their smaller achievements, correction of any of their shortcomings or mistakes is also of similar significance. But try to do this in private because most of the people feel embarrassed if you discuss their mistakes publicly. To keep the employees motivated, make your negative feed-backs a learning opportunity for them rather than presenting their bad performances or behaviors as punishing.
